What to Eat For Breakfast: Shake it Up with a Smoothie Station!

Hey guys! I am guest posting over at IHeart Organizing today with a yummy, space-saving breakfast solution: a smoothie station with a little bit of secret storage!

Workout Shakes

Can you guess where I hid my blender??

Free Printable Labels, Protein Shake Station

Find out for sure & read all of the “juicy” details at IHeart Organizing.  I even have a present for you: free printable label downloads!  (I made two versions: aqua & gray and coral & white). Make sure you leave Jen some love in the comments section!

Extra Info:

  • I tape the nutrition facts to the side of the container when I’m trying a new protein powder. It helps me remember the brand & compare the nutrition information when I’m comparison shopping.
  • The cake batter protein powder I’m using right now is Muscle Milk Light. It is delicious — I even mix it in with my coffee!
  • I am NOT a nutritionist. I just like yummy things and am trying to learn to make healthier choices!

Happy blending! May your milkshakes bring ALL the boys to the yard ;)

UPDATE: I’ve had a lot of questions about the containers & smoothie recipes. Here ya go!

Containers: I bought them 3 or 4 years ago at Target. They have a few cracks at this point, but they’ve been seriously abused & even survived when we moved from our apartment into this house. I don’t think Target carries them anymore, but I just found one size on Amazon & added it to my store: Pretty Organized Amazon Store.

I also found this cylindrical glass canister set at Target for you!

Here’s one of my fave smoothies:

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2-1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1-2 scoops cake batter protein powder
  • 1/2 cup nonfat cottage cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds.

If you want it thicker, just add a tiny pinch of the xanthan gum. You can also add some ground flaxseed or greek yogurt to make it more filling. If you want it sweeter, just sprinkle in some stevia (NuStevia is my fave brand). It tastes like strawberry shortcake/cheesecake!

Oreo lovers: I just invented a Cookies ‘n’ Cream/Oreo recipe that works as a protein coffee or a shake! Check it out at the bottom of my Operation: Coffee Station blog post.

There are also a TON of awesome protein shake recipes at Dashing Dish. Om nom nom!

I found your blog through iheartorganizing! I LOVE cake batter Muscle Milk Light too! What canisters are those – I need major kitchen reorganization and those would be perfect for all of my protein shake and baking ingredients!

I’ve come across your blog a few times now to get organization tips. I love this idea, and a smoothie with vanilla protein sounds so yummy!

Also…I’m a Delaware native! I grew up in Bear :)

Just came over from iheartorganizing! Just ordered the protein powder. I have been using a bourbon vanilla one. I know your site is organizing, but can you give a sample smoothie recipe? I just started with chia last week (still not sure how to really use it) and am intrigued by xanthum gum. Now to explore your blog!

Sure! Bourbon vanilla sounds yummy! Is that Muscle Milk?

Here’s one of my fave smoothies: 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, 1-2 scoops cake batter protein powder, 1/2 cup nonfat cottage cheese, 1 tablespoon chia seeds. If you want it thicker, just add a tiny pinch of the xanthan gum. You can also add some ground flaxseed or greek yogurt to make it more filling. If you want it sweeter, just sprinkle in some stevia (NuStevia is my fave brand). It tastes like strawberry shortcake!

I have also seen folks use chia seeds to make jam. Here’s a recipe for cherry chia jam from Rabbit Food for My Bunny Teeth. I really want to try it. I tried making it with blueberries, but it didn’t have enough flavor. I think frozen cherries or strawberries would be amazing!

      • Sasha says:

The bourbon vanilla is Tera’s Whey. That is nearly the basic formula that I use for smoothies except yogurt for cottage cheese. Must try that substitute though. Thanks for such a timely reply. I can’t wait for the protein powder and look forward to your next post!

Such a neat (and pretty) solution! And how sweet are you for making labels and sharing them…

BTW, Will you please come to my house to take pictures of my projects for me? :) I’m working on it, but I seriously need help in this department! Yours are always amazing.

    • Casey says:

Aww, thanks, Erin! It has definitely taken a few years for me to get comfortable behind a lens. I’ve been shooting weddings & running Leafo Photo for almost five years now, so I have had quite a bit of practice, and my hubby was a pro photographer for a few years before I got into it! In my humble opinion, lighting is EVERYTHING — if you aren’t comfortable with external flashes, you may want to invest in some big LED video lights or find ways to maximize the natural light you have available (super low aperture, shooting at the right time of day, etc.). It makes a huge difference! But yes — there is SOOO much to learn, and between the photos & the technical side of blogging, I don’t know if I’ll ever feel like I know enough!

      • Erin@Managing the Manor says:

I know!! My biggest problem is not being home until the late afternoon/evening. My hubs has a big work light that I’m going to try soon, putting a white sheet over it. A local photographer gave me this tip and I can’t wait to try it!

        • Casey says:

Awesome!! That should work beautifully! I have seen people use sheer curtain fabric for different diffusing effects, too. You could also play around with reflectors (or a white sheet of poster board) to bounce the light, soften shadows, & brighten it even more. Good luck — I can’t wait to see how it turns out! :)

    Hi Casey!!
This is such a great idea. Wondering if you can share how you make your labels. Thanks so much

I love this idea! I would love to know what kind of recipes you use for your shakes! Those ingredients interest me and I’d love to know :-)
