Hide yo’ crafts, hide yo’ threads — we’re decoratin’ everybody up in here!
My Mom-Mom gave me her old 1960′s Kenmore sewing machine, and I am just itchin’ to get stitchin’ on some crazy craft ideas! The only issue? It looked a little cluttery and out of place sitting on my white office book shelf in all of its almond-bisque accessorized glory.
I don’t know how to sew a cute cover (or anything else!) yet, so I decided to whip up this super simple solution. My mom coined the term, “Low-Impact Crafting,” for easy craft ideas, and that’s EXACTLY what this project is!
Materials:
- Cardboard Box
- Scissors or Box Cutter
- Wrapping Paper or Kraft Paper
- Shipping Tape
Step One: Cut A Hole In That Box
I grabbed an old cardboard box that was lying around & cut two of the sides so that it could easily slide along my book shelf to cover the machine. The open sides go against the bottom & side wall of the book shelf. If you’re planning on storing your machine in the middle of the shelf, then just cut off the bottom flap & leave the other three sides (and front) to cover it!
Step Two: Slap Some Cute On That Box
I grabbed my favorite white kraft paper & covered up the outside of the box so that it would match my white book shelf & the rest of my office decor. Then, I added a sweet little label to remind me what was hidden behind it.
Step Three: Stash It Under That Box
Seriously, that’s it! You just created the world’s easiest faux cabinet front and clutter concealer. Revel in the glory.
Here’s a close-up of the sign. I think it would also look cute as a craft room decoration just hanging in a frame!
