Kids’ Room Ideas: DIY Decor

I am SOOOOOO excited to share this creative kids’ bedroom with you today! Our friends Adam & Charese are a fabulously talented duo. They have a great sense of style & are also amazingly handy DIYers. This is the boat-themed bedroom they created for their son, Cye.

Isn’t it amazing?!  Adam created his own plans and built this boat bed by hand!

Their adorable bedding is from The Land of Nod. You can find the pillow here and the sheet sets here and here. The life preserver on the wall is from Pottery Barn Kids & is no longer available, but I found a similar one here.

Since Cye was a toddler when they built this, they included fold-down bed railings to keep him safe while he snoozed.

Check out the built-in hidden storage in both the “bow” and “stern” of the boat! It’s the perfect place to stash extra bedding and pillows, matey! :)

The other side of the bedroom has a gorgeous DIY storage chest. Right now, Cye uses it as a giant toy box, and as he ages, there are plenty of extra drawers for clothes, too.  Who knew toy storage could be so beautiful??

What I Adore About This Nautical Bedroom:

  • The hidden built-in storage in the bed allows easy access to extra bedding without sacrificing style.
  • The fold-down bed railing blends in as a part of the “boat” while keeping toddlers safe in bed.
  •  The toy chest has enough drawers for Cye to sort and store everything out of sight, and it’s low to the ground, making it easily accessible for little ones. It also has a very classic, timeless appearance that will allow the piece to blend in with any decor. Choosing a storage chest with drawers allows a lot of versatility as he grows, because it can easily hold clothing and school supplies when he’s too old for his toys.
  • When putting your stuff away feels like a pirate adventure, who wouldn’t enjoy being “Arrr-ganized”? What a great way to make kids WANT to clean up!

Adam and Charese, thank you so much for sharing all of your creative decorating and organizing ideas! Cye is one lucky little boy!

How have you organized and decorated your kids’ rooms?

This is way cool! What incredible talents, and what a blessed little boy :)

We’re beginning to plan for our son’s “big-boy” room. He’ll be 3 in February, so we hope to have it done by then. We’re hoping to DIY most of it, besides existing furniture pieces.
