Guest Post: Decluttering & How to Be Happy with Less

Decluttering, how to be happy with less Image courtesy of dzigns.me

Hey guys! My hubby teaches web design, photography, and video at Delaware Technical Community College, and one of his students created an incredibly adorable video about decluttering & organizing. Naturally, I had to share it with you! (Thanks for letting me blog about ya, Dominique!!)

Video by Dominique Zelaya, a design student bound for Moore College of Art & Design. Check out her other work at dzigns.me!

I love the idea of simple living. One of the most important skills in maintaining an organized home is the ability to let go of clutter. It seems obvious, but it is SO much easier to keep your house clean when you don’t have a million little knick-knacks and piles of extra stuff getting in the way. Think about it: you can put clothes away quickly & easily when your closet isn’t packed & your drawers aren’t so full that they barely slide open. The less “stuff” you have, the less you really need to worry about actual storage & organizing solutions. Yes, we will always benefit from finding smarter ways to use space or keeping things in places where they make sense, but the more you simplify, the easier it gets!

READER TIP  (Tiffani of Next on Tiffs List):

My favorite decluttering tip is to pass it on. When you are giving it to someone it makes it easier to part with. Sometimes I just Facebook a pic of what I’m getting rid of & boom someone is happy to take it.

What’s your favorite decluttering tip?
